Luray Oaks

At White House Natives we pride ourselves on the diverse number of native species we grow and we have put an emphasis on 15 oak (Quercus) species. We understand the value that oaks bring to the environment with the numerous species of insects and birds that they support.  This long-lived species is the true backbone of Virginia forests.  We have been fortunate to see some of our oak trees find homes very close to the nursery so we can keep tabs on how they perform in the landscape over a long period of time. These red oaks (Quercus rubra) were planted at the 2½” size in 2020.  The pin oaks (Quercus palustris) were planted in 2018 at 3-4 inch caliper.  It has been wonderful to observe these trees seasonally and this past fall they really stood out so much that we knew it was time to share their progress.  [Photos taken mid-October 2021.]
